Your uploaded files are never stored
Your PDFs and photos stay in memory only while your exam is being made. To read them, we send them to Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, through its file storage. We delete them there as soon as Claude has read them, and they are set to expire after one hour in any case. Anthropic handles them under its commercial terms, which say it doesn't train its models on them. It may keep request logs for a limited time under its own data retention policy.
What we keep, and for how long
- Your exams: the questions, your answers, grades, flashcards, and short notes taken from your materials (so a retake can be written without the files). Deleted automatically 180 days after each exam is made. Delete them any time from your account page.
- If you buy a pass: your email, Stripe's customer ID, and what you paid and when. The email and customer ID are deleted 30 days after your last pass ends. Stripe handles your card. We never see it. Stripe keeps its own payment records, as the law requires.
- A device cookie: a random ID that keeps your exams on this device. We store only a scrambled (keyed hash) form of it, with whether this device has used its free exam.
- Usage counts: which steps happened (landed, uploaded, finished an exam, paid), which link you came from, and how many AI tokens each exam used. No content. Kept about 13 months.
- Your network: only as a keyed hash, for free-exam limits and rate limits, never as an IP address.
- Sign-in codes and links: stored as hashes. Codes expire after 10 minutes, links after 14 days.
If you send a practice exam to your class
- Classmates with the link get their own copy of the questions, with the page each one cites and the words it quotes. They never see your files, your answers, your score, or anything that says who you are.
- Their answers and score are private to them. You see only how many classmates finished it, which is how your extra free exam is counted. We count devices, never networks or names.
- The link's preview in a chat says only that a classmate sent a practice exam. It never shows the exam's title or any course text.
- Deleting your exam turns the link off. Copies classmates already took stay theirs, and are deleted 180 days after they took them, like any exam.
